Chrome Sky is a Pony that comes from a distant land - Dartmoor. See, the reason for her metal name is that around Dartmoor City, it's a common trend to name ponies after metals. Now, what is Dartmoor? well read the next paragraph - it's something of my own "Creation".

Dartmoor is another country about the size of Equestria (Roughly, not including territory that had been ceded to the Crystal Empire, Equestria's new neighbouring country.) that was originally not really a country at all... it was originally a loose connection of city-states, with the largest and most populous being Dartmoor, the city of metal. Eventually, similar minds between the smaller city-states decided to band together and share territory and an identity with the large city of Dartmoor. (In a way, riding on their coattails but beginning to support with their own commerce.) Thus, to otuside ponies, the land was simply known as "Dartmoor", after its largest and most popular cities. So it decided to stick.

The cities in Dartmoor were initially founded by "Shire" ponies. Dartmoor was a little different in that it wasn't founded by a Shire horse, in fact, plenty of minotaurs called the area home. Initially it was Dartmoorshire, but the "Shire" was dropped over time as the city grew. Minotaurs, while rare in Equestria, aren't an uncommon sight in the hills of Dartmoor. Dragons have been known to be there as well. (Maybe Iron Will is from Dartmoor? Maybe he is... maybe he isn't. I hear there is an island called "Minoa" that is said to be the homeland to the minotaurs... because it would make sense COME ON WORK WITH ME HERE.)

Another notable area from Dartmoor is Wiltshire. The "home" to the mysterious red pony named Draco Scales.

Alright, I got that out of the way.

Sometimes Chrome Sky is a random Dartmoor pony. Just a normal pony from another place. you know, sort of a foreign pony. It's kinda like how Nickel Steel, depending on continuity, is just from another country.

or maybe she's the princess of Dartmoor. (no, she doesn't have a horn under that mane.) She and some of her family impulsively fled Dartmoor because of one pony:

Duke Shining Spark of Normaredy.

Things were going great, until all of a sudden a duke from another land (Not too far, mind you.) comes over and says that he happens to have a legit claim to the throne of Dartmoor... and has been gaining support. Because why settle for being a Duke in one land... when you can go to the next land over and be king, as long as you convince others you are the rightful heir? And you DO have evidence that doesn't lie. So Chrome Sky fled with some other family members. However, she went to Equestria.

Gotta love monarchy, huh? IF you insist all royalty must be a winged unicorn/Alicorn... I dunno. Maybe she's the antithesis to Twilight? :P
