I usually avoid making ref sheets because they tend to scream "DRAW MY CHARACTER, PREFERABLY NAKED OK GUYS?!" but I was testing out my ability to color with out any line work and, at the same time, remake this character in a way that wouldn't make me want to rip off my fingers with pliers. I like to imagine I succeeded in both regards but I'm sure I didn't for any number of reasons that I'm too naive to see. Anyway don't bother getting on my case about the lack of a background this, after all, was a character study and if I were to include a background I sure as hell would have included a better pose while I was at it.
I might ditch my line work altogether in favor of this more painterly look because I kind of (and by "kind of" I mean "really") like it better. I put it up here to see what other people think. In other words: DON'T FAVE IT WITHOUT COMMENTING. Honestly you can get away with that kind of thing if it's someone who obviously doesn't respond to them anyway or is already ridiculously popular, but us "lesser" beings don't want feedback, we bloody NEED it.
That was surprisingly angry sounding.

I'm the same way but I figured that, if you work with the content enough, you can still make it interesting. I mean Lackadaisy is about nothing but cats (and cats are pretty damn popular last time I checked) and it manages to be intensely original despite that seemingly cliche element.
After your college load is complete, I will contact you regardig a commission. I basically was looking to have my character drawn by you, in a similar pose.

in a pose and medium that is similar to your Virgil. Only if you agree of course. ;d

Very impressive, very stylish. The only thing bugging me is his lack of shadow-after the detail you've put into the clothing etc., it's a bit of a jar to have a completely blank background like that. Regarding shadows, looking at the pic I'm slightly puzzld as to where the lightsource is meant to be coming from, and so where (if any) shadows should be falling. Your shading's really well done, it's just that you put a couple of shadows in ie under the hat and chin, but left everything else very diffuse. It is a very pernickerty point, though.
No background shadow, didn't really think about it too much (being a ref sheet/color test background wasn't weighing too heavily on my mind). Looking at it I'd say I put a basic light source on the upper right and a harsh blue on the left, perpendicular to the figure length-wise..
