The fire and ice dragons face off with each other at the entry to the Dueling Dragons roller coaster at the Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando. This is a truly excellent dual track inverted coaster designed and manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard of Switzerland. Each of the two tracks is 3200 feet long and start out with a 125 foot lift hill. Maximum speed is 60 MPH and each track has 5 inversions and three near misses with the other track. The fire and ice trains are synchronized on the way up the lift so that they begin the duel together and so that they line up at the near miss points.
Without a doubt, this is the best dragon themed roller coaster in the world, which of course is something very important to me.

Both track are excellent, though I'm partial to the Fire dragon myself. (I am a red dragon, so I admit I'm a bit biased.) According to the specs, the Fire dragon has a top speed that's 5 MPH faster than Ice and I think the G forces are a little more intense. Though the Ice dragon has that excellent near miss where it climbs the castle wall which I really like. Just gotta keep riding them both!
Oh, don't worry. This coaster isn't going anywhere. It's one of the most popular rides in the park, plus it's a super high capacity ride. On a busy day, they can run three trains on each track at once for a capacity of just over 1600 riders per hour. These dragons will most likely continue dueling for as long as the park itself stands.
You bet! To date I've ridden 410 different roller coasters across North America and Europe (yes, I keep a list), and I regularly attend coaster enthusiast conventions. My photo album is brimming with coaster photos, a few of which have been published in periodicals and on calendars. I hope to surpass 500 coasters by the end of 2009 and perhaps break 1000 in my lifetime (there are presently around 1400 coasters operating worldwide). It's a hobby.
If you like theme parks, you should definitely go sometime. The thematic elements in the park are second only to Disney in my opinion. To give you an idea, Islands of Adventure is home to world's top rated dark ride: The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman. It's been consistently rated as the number one dark ride for years now in Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards. Awesome dark ride. And The Hulk and Dueling Dragons are two of my favorite coasters. Really nice park.
