Based on a couple of conversations that actually happened. One of the interesting things about poly is that your multiple partners often have very different 'takes' on you...and odd agreements, sometimes. Kestrel has been teasing me about being butch for ages, but I certainly never saw it. But apparently the kitty and the lioness, both self-proclaimed 'femme' types, see it too...
WTF?
Lucy's quip about the corset was priceless, though. I have two, actually.

Does it matter whether or not you're butch, femme, or somewhere in between? They're really just stereotypes from the get-go.
Or, maybe I'm just ignorant despite an open mind on these things, not being a woman in relationships with other women (but instead a single guy with no intentions of romance in my life.)

I completely agree with you about the whole stereotype thing, and have long been annoyed at the assumption, which is completely untrue, that if you are a lesbian you have to fall into one of the two categories. I am a perfect example of someone who dosen't.
However, recently I've had cause to re-examine the issue and realize that there is at least a little grain of truth in the stereotype, and there's something about it which has real power. So interesting stuff.

would a male wanting to own a corset be femme, then?
I had to look up "butch" first, so now I understand the pun. :) but as little as I have seen of you, pegging you masculine would be the last term ocurring to me. :)
"Organic Gardening for Urban Hippies"? "Ninja Gardening"? :)

The whole butch/femme thing is...complicated. Particularly since the very butch types I've known, at least, don't strike me as 'masculine' at all, but feminine in a very specific way. It's a stereotype that used to just annoy the heck out of me, which now I have had cause to examine with a little more care. And a lot of amusement, really.
As for me, well, I certainly don't look the part. Much. But people are complicated critters.
I've never heard a male referred to as femme, but I certainly don't see why not. And for what it's worth, a couple of my straight friends make very appealing butches!

I see. I also see many stereotypes around me on any given furry convention, mot of which rather 'normal' appearing, and some seem to want to fulfill the "girly" or "openly gay" stereotype to about the max.
I myself find a lady dressed in a rather masculine kind of costume (business suit, pinstripes or somesuch) more feminine than everything else. it's probably the way they wear themselves about.
yes, people are complicated. furries even more so. but I guess you already know...
I might have used the wrong term... I meant 'girlish'. or maybe not... it's not exactly crossdressing I'm thinking about.
and yes, straight people can be quite the sight, but don't tell 'em! :) deep waters are still, or something. :)

I've always kinda suspected that myself (Bi dude), so it's good to hear at least one actual lesbian agrees :D. Artificial categories of any kind suck because they tend to dull the imagination, clip the wings of possibility.
That said, I'm sure there is -some- truth to it. Even the most slanted stereotypes have their root in some kind of truth. And I'm sure there are some lesbians that are very well described as "Butch" or "Femme". Like you said, it's just the assumption that every lesbian is either super masculine or super feminine (or ditto for gay guys) that seems odd. Most people aren't that simple.
So yeah, a cool and thought-provoking comic.
