Former Leyden, IL Fire Department Ambulance 132
I managed to photograph this unit in-transit to its new owner by the looks of things.
Former Leyden, IL Fire Department ambulance 132 was last noted as up for sale on January 18th, 2013 according to:
http://chicagoareafire.com/blog/tag.....tion-district/
Now, the unit sits in a parking lot, 561 miles from its fire protection district, with all mentions of Leyden painted over or removed.
I have no idea which department will be getting this unit, but, if its local, I'll be looking for it. :)

I think the same. If someone needs to be treated on scene, or needs care during a transfer to another facility, it is best to send a unit of this type.
One can probably get by with other means if it is a non-emergency transport, transfer, or just needing an ambulance on standby. But for emergencies, large units work the best.
Admittedly though, it kind of comes down to what the EMS provider can afford, and what the roads are like.
Big units sometimes come with big fuel costs, and sometimes the roads are too narrow, too crowded, or too rough for them.

Diesel ZiL-"Bychok"
negative-negative-negative
It is not suitable for a town with narrow passages.
Maybe for highways...
I personally saw this ambulance.... He could not turn around in the hospital or climb a ramp So big..
He had a diesel exhaust as ... a garbage truck.

Something like this should be kept on hand as well, maybe in a wagon though. http://store.diecast.ru/image/cache.....fr-700x700.jpg
