First attempt at using a new medium, oil paint, on a portrait of a Pointer. I really like how it turned out, especially for being my first attempt at painting.

Same here! I never liked painting because all I was ever exposed to was acrylic paint in high school. And, like you said, it's splotchy and icky and totally turned me off to painting completely. I am using a dry brush technique that works really well with the oil paint, and you use about a pea size drop of paint for an entire painting. It's really nice, and if you add oil to the oil paint you can actually erase any accidental mistakes. It's a really, really nice medium, I definitely recommend it.
I've actually heard that oil is harder to work with than acrylic, or rather, less forgiving. That's made me hesitant to buy some, and I also haven't really been educated with it. I wouldn't know where to start XD Some of the best stuff I've seen has come from that, though, so I may have to try it! Where do you buy yours?
I've been told that oil paint is harder to work with as well until I actually tried it. The portrait above is literally my very first attempt ever at painting willingly lol
I bought mine at Michael's craft store, you can also get them online:
