This is one my my early poems, written around 1998.
---
The Lost Myth.
An airborne body moves like liquid,
Held up by wings beating a silent rhythm.
Spine, claws and tip of tail shimmer with gold,
And ruby eyes show reflections of watchers.
Silver-green lips peel back, showing diamond-sharp teeth;
A distressed cry echoes through the air.
The smile quickly fades when the audience flees.
A tear forms in a gemstone eye.
It falls like lead,
Glistens like silver.
Tail slicing through air, the myth turns.
Gliding on leathery wings it is gone,
Becoming just a star in a distant sky.
