Because all ruling principals need a face, right?
Anyways, I was going to draw my main 'Rise of the Guardians' character, Sara, but apparently Haul wanted to be drawn instead. Makes sense, I guess since I've never drawn him before - spoiled brat...
Anyways, part one of three: Haul represents Justice, Truth, and Vengeance. Most of the time, he's fair and honest and righteous in his decisions, but you really, really, don't want to piss him off... The consequences are dire.
Special Quirk: The more you piss him off, the worse his vision gets. In 'Full Vengeance,' he's completely blind.
His item of choice comes in two parts - A 'Laurel Clip' he wears over his left ear, and a bow and quiver. The quiver is always empty. The arrows he uses are formed through his own conviction:
- Justice; final deliverance, his word is law. It silences a room with a flash-bang, or gives the falsely accused an opportunity to flee.
- Truth; A boa made of pure light that wraps around his foe's ankles - typically - and 'encourages' them to confess their sins. Sometimes it wraps around someone's wrist in a nondescript manner - good for situations like a student lying to their teacher confessing their wrongs, or a cheating husband or wife coming clean to their spouse.
- Vengeance; Arrows the burn hotter than the white hot intensities of a thousand suns, but they won't kill you. They'll just make you seriously regret pissing him off. Typically used against shades and monsters that go bu-bump-bump in the night. Has been used against mortals.
Origin:
Born in the early 1800's Haul was a patient lad living in a small fishing village in Wales. He discovered at a young age that women didn't tickle his fancy, but neither did the menfolk. He was asexual before it was a thing. He loved reading - mostly about mythology. When he became a certain age and his parents wanted him married off, he started acting out - standing up for the meek as a hobby, and mostly for those with similar 'preferences to himself.' It started with little things; beggars accused of thievery, alleged 'witches' bringing ailments and illness with them... But as he neared his 20th birthday, his 'targets' of his altruism became more and more... illegal. He started standing up for lovers - of all kinds. After all, homosexuality was a crime punishable by death...
Which brings us to his death, and how he became the avatar he is today. He took a regal stand at the gallows and demanded justice for those wronged. Certainly, it was a crime in writing - but was it a crime to love? He was accused of homoerotic activities himself, and was hanged publicly with grand extravagance.
While he died, a few years later in 1828, an amendment to the Law of Henry the VIII was issued, recusing all those subjected to hanging. Homosexual activities, however, were still illegal and punishable through incarceration.
