Gin is a tanuki, a raccoon-dog yokai trapped in human form in order to fight alongside the Yokaiger. Contrary to popular American belief, Tanuki are not big balled as a symbol of fertility, this actually based on tanuki skins being used for the sake of making purse skins, or something to that effect, hence he has power over metal.
Much like the stereotypical nature of the tanuki, Gin is the most easygoing of the Yokaiger and tries to keep the peace in the group. His name Gin, means silver--trying to be ironic there.
