My friend, on Facebook, who supports gay rights and anybody and everything, posted this on her facebook:
Lily M****
Yesterday via mobile
I want to go on record by saying I HATE FURRIES! What's wrong with you freaks!
Followed by a slew of people agreeing and talking about the "horror"
This is the end of the conversation and unfortunately our friendship.
Lauren Hill I'm a furry. I guess you hate me now. I'm suprised to see you post this, I thought it was a joke. What people do with their time as a hobby isnt your business, this is like saying gays are freaks, etc, I'm very suprised Lily.
Lily M**** Its ok to not like everything or everyone. I'm sure someone out there is offended by my own sexual deviancy. Its ok. Opinions are like assholes.
Lauren Hill Alright. sure. except when you call a sect of people freaks and say you hate them. then its more like, I dunno, being hatefully discriminate? Yeah. Thats about right.

Hypocritical. Pathetic. Sad.
Only furries understand furries.
That is why we are strong,
and why our community is something to be proud of.
When people dont understand, they point fingers, blame us, call us freaks.
However, we are not alone.
Our numbers grow.
Understanding is all around us.
We carry on being ourselves, because that is the only way to be.

there are people of virtually all groups who get known because that are always out there trying to get attention by doing stupid things. These are the ones that often get characterized as the whole group, at least till people realize their ignorance and find out the truth for themselves.
woah. Some friend. This is why I don't really talk about this side of me to my RL friends and stuff...I don't know how they would take it. Heck, I didn't even really explain it to my parents. >.>; People are so quick to judge what they don't understand. And I don't really have the right words to explain it to them. So I keep quiet.
I understand and empathize with the feeling. I oftentimes feel that the pro-rights movement takes special care to lapse when it encounters the furry community.
I can only hope that those of us have the option to lean on one another when they encounter such prejudiced commentary.

It's far simpler to hate a person, then it is to hate a people. Choose your battles, and don't hate an entire gender/race/species etc it paints you in a bad light.
And Kudos to you, for standing up for what you believe in. This paints you in a brilliant light, and I see it getting brighter

It's sad that some people would choose to hate a group just for being different. The hardest part is that these people hate us and think we are freaks because of misinformation, or only knowing about the "weird" stuff.
It would be nice if people would realize that being a furry is no different than being a fan of fantasy, or a Trekkie. The main difference is that we are a much more close knit and supportive community than most. I have never found a group that has been as accepting of all my quirks as the furry community. Not to mention the amount of charity work that has been done by this community. I know a ton of suiters that volunteer their time at hospitals to cheer up sick children, and others that use their suits to promote shelters.
People that refuse to see the good we do in favor of seeing us all as freaks are not worth the time.

This is sad :(
I just want to say that, before I considered myself a furry, I thought furries were OK, just different. But then I already considered myself to have a hidden identity that wasn't visible to the eye and could only be expressed through art.
Of course, now that I consider myself to be a furry, saying that might have less impact, but furries are still OK, just different. :)
