"All right Girls, beddie-by time," the tall fluffy canine said to the three toddler ladies who had been engaged in several different activities from reading to doodling to simply styling the hair on one of several dolls.
"But Daaaady......" they all began nearly as one but their father simply smiled.
"You know its time," he said gently and picked up each one of his beloved little girls nuzzling them and making sure they had brushed their teeth and at one point fixing the bow in one of Sarah's pigtails while Kaname had ‘pounced' on his back laughing as she wrapped her arms about his neck and held on. He laughed gently and shrugged his shoulder so the young lady would slide around. She squealed with delight as he caught her up and nuzzled her. "I know you want to tumble about Kaname, but its time for all princesses to be in bed." He laid her down in the bed and then gathered her sisters up and let them hop in with Kaname, Kaori snuggling one of her
stuffed horses and Sarah hugging tightly to her two sisters.
"But we're not tired!" Kaori announced.
"And we haven't had a story!" Kaname piped up smiling brightly.
"Daddy she is right," Sarah said her big crystal blue eyes pleading with her father. "We can't sleep sometimes if we don't have a story...."
"Only sometimes is it?" Chaser asked his daughters gently and Sarah blushed but her sisters grinned and nodded as only little girls could do.
Chaser just smiled and sat down at the edge of the bed looking at the three girls as they projected the most adorable and innocent looks. "All right, what would you girls like?"
"Princess and knights!" Sarah blurted out her pure white fur turning pink from her flush afterwards. Her sisters giggled but nuzzled closer to the oldest of the three.
"Oh princesses," Chaser said smiling at his girls.
"Uh huh, but they have to do something Daddy!" Kaori piped up.
"Of coarse," the tall canine returned smiling. "Princesses have to do something..." he thought for a few moments.
"Lets see," he began slowly leaning back and making a show of thinking. He really didn't do a good job of it but his girls giggled and played along."There was once a kingdom whose people were some of the most blessed of the world..."
"Yeeeah!" Kaori pipped up.
"Shhh!" Sarah shot back already engrossed.
"You too Sissy," Kaname returned hugging her sisters tighter as she listened.
Their father smiled and leaned back in the bed thinking. "For the King and Queen had a pair of daughters, the most beautiful in the whole world some said. But beyond their beauty they had ability. They were smart, not only where they the furs to inherit the kingdom from their father, they knew how and helped their parents rule good and wise.
"Now, there were those in the kingdom that didn't like that the Princesses knew so much of the Kingdom and that they had influence with the their father and mother more than they did. They did not think mere 'girls' should take on such roles of leadership in the Kingdom."
Kaname snorted it sounded surprising from such a little lady. Chaser just smiled amazed how she could sound so much like her birth mother. "I know sounds so silly dosen't it?"
"Yeah Mommy's a doctor and everyone asks her what to do!" Kaori announced.
"And Mamma..." Sarah began but blushed she wanted the story to continue.
Their father smiled and waited to see if the girls had anymore protests then
continued. "Now, they did not want the Princesses to come to the throne. They wanted one of their own to lead after the King and Queen had passed on. So they tricked the King and Queen, who adored their daughters. The King and Queen were convinced that the Princesses had to marry, and that they had to be married on their eighteenth birthday because after all had not the King needed to marry his beloved Queen? So the couple agreed. Those that wanted to push the Princesses out of the way made special rules that the suitors had to be 'proven' that the one that was to marry the Princesses had to prove himself. If by their eighteenth birthday that suitor could not be found then the Princesses would have no choice in who they would marry it would be those that had tricked the King and Queen.
"Now there was a knight in the King's service. A young man born at a time of the Princesses. While many knights were rich and could afford fancy clothes and time in court this knight was a simple soldier. He spent his money on his weapons and armor and trained hard for he was was devoted to the King and Queen. He was young but he was given a position of authority in the Army.
"He also loved the Princesses more than anything. He was their strong shield, any time the Princesses would travel he would lead their guard. He watched over them and learned from them for the Princesses had much to teach him just as he taught them how to use a sword to defend themselves. In time both princesses loved him as much as he loved them.
"He was not a proper suitor though many decried, he was a poor simple canine! he was a soldier plain and uncultured! That was the plan and the councilors who wished the kingdom to be theirs set a task far too difficult for the young Knight to complete They knew he would fail and that they would be done with him. The knight was sad, because he knew that while he had won the Princesses hearts their paws in a life together would not be."
Kaori looked like she was about ready to scream that it wasn't fair, Kaname's big gray eyes were locked on her father and Sarah held tight to one of the horse plushes looking like she wanted to cry for the heroes for people to be so mean.
Chaser smiled at his girls. "But, you see the Princesses knew of the plan, knew that their beloved knight was suppose to fail and they had a plan as well. The came to him smiling as he told them of the impossible task given to him and they comforted him and told him of their plan.
"'Where has it been said that we cannot aid the one we choose?' One of the Princesses said.
"'Alone you have no chance true,' the other announced drawing the sword that he had made for her and had taught her how to use. 'With us, you will succeed.'"
Chaser smiled watching his girls. "And they did, for the Princesses intelligence and cunning and the Knight's devotion and skill with the sword the task was not impossible. They worked together, and even fought together. The Princesses saved his life on their quest and he theirs. When the three returned to the Kingdom, the quest complete the plotters were furious. The Knight was to have failed! He was to have been brushed aside. 'My lord King!' they cried in fury. 'He has cheated! He did not complete his quest alone!'"
The King looked upon those that had tricked him, for he knew very well what they had done. He was a Good King and wise only his love of his daughters had blinded him to the ill intent of his councilors. 'It was said that only the suitor must complete his quest. I never announced he had to do it alone,' he growled at them from his throne. 'You wished to take the Princesses, you wished to make them less than they are.' The king pointed to the Knight who a loyal and faithful servant was knelt head bowed. 'He wished to love them, he wished to learn and trust them. He protected them and was strong enough to accept their protection as well. Had he failed to achieve his quest in the end he still proved himself more worthy than any could ever be! More worthy than any of you!'
"And with that the councilors that plotted were banished. In time there was great joy in the Kingdom as the Princesses married their Prince, the Knight that was so devoted to them," he smiled. "They all worked hard, they had difficulties and trials, but through their devotion and their trust and working together the Kingdom flourished and grew even stronger."
Chaser smiled as the girls had slowly fallen into a dozing sleep at the last part of the story. He looked at each one of them. "The end," he whispered softly and bent over gently kissing each between the ear as they lay curled up together. He stood slowly covering them with the blanket and turning to walk out seeing his beloved wives standing at the door in their night gowns stomachs just beginning to round from the new life they had created together.
"Princesses hmm?" Dana said softly but with a rather devilish light in her eye.
Chaser blushed at his sable headed-white wife. "It is what they wanted."
Krystal gave him a nuzzle. "Yes, it was," she nipped him gently. "Our Devoted knight."
