Finished watercolor commission for
balorkin +
tybaltthefriesian featuring their Shadowrun elf characters :3
This is the first large, fully-backgrounded, multi-element piece I've completed in this medium and was definitely a challenge. Won't be the last though! <:3
I need a lot more practice rendering humanoids/skintones :T
Aquarelle, watercolors, pigmented inks, colored pencil, opaque white ink, microns and a little gel pen on 14" x 11" hotpress watercolor paper.

Love dissss. Full backgrounds really make your work pop!
Skin tone def can be tricky. Looks like you had the right idea, shadowing with purples and red-browns, but if you get a bit heavy on it can make the character look more grey. Not sure how well this particular medium layers, but it can help to start with an orangey-red "flesh" as the base for the whole thing, then build up a paler peachy-pink skin on top of that, then go in very carefully on the shadows with some deeper purples where you want it to pop. ...man I suck at describing things. XD I hope that is helpful.
ANYWAY this is baller and I definitely do hope you do more work like it!

THIS IS AMAZING MOMNDAD. Wtf!! The amount of work you put into this is unreal. o__o I think it came out awesome. I can see what
czgoldedition is saying about the shadows of the skin tone, but I don't think it in any way takes away from the piece as a whole. And I know it's no consolation, as you are a far more skilled, observant, and seasoned artist, but I can't even comprehend realistic skin tones. What is even skin happening? How do human?! :( I'm the last person to ask in that department.
Landscapes, however...!! ffffffffffffff!!! This blew me away!! Granted I only understand landscapes as they apply in oil paints, courtesy of Bobbo Ross, and don't know much about doing them in any other medium, but I am amazed at how much you were able to pack into the background with watercolor pencil (I think that's what it looks like it is?). You are the watercolor wizard around here, yo. I don't even. How did. What. :| A lot of people tend to overwork a backgrounds. Especially landscapes. Most people I see either don't add enough detail, or add way too much which makes it come out looking unrealistic because things lose detail as they move further away from the viewer. It's easy to make a background look flat or make it overwhelm what you're trying to draw the eye to. It's so tricky. But you always do a phenomenal job in every medium and add just enough, but not too much, detail to make things look so believable; like you could just walk right into that scene and smack that horses ass and then climb those fucking mountains. Seriously dude. Teach meh. D: I have so much more to learn from you.
Great job, momndad. Love you!! <3

Thank you so much! This is awesome. I really adore it. Especially how you rendered the horses body / fur and Alex'. I know this was a biggy to pull off for your but I believe it was a good thing that I trusted you with the idea of this commission and that it was a challenge you passed greatly. I love your elf drawings and am very happy about this commission, as is my partner. Thank you. As soon as we got this, we'll frame it and put it up on the wall next to the other commission we got from you.
