
I took this picture a few weeks ago at Arbeia in South Shields on south Tyneside. I know it's not furry stuff but I thaught I would share it with you.
The name Arbeia means "The place of the Arabs". This comes from the time when Tigris barge men were posted here to guard the mouth of the Tyne. It was also in it's earlier history a supply post for many of the forts along Hadrians' wall.
The west gate and other buildings on the site are reconstructed on top of the original foundations, these other buildings are the commanders' house and a barrack block.
