How do you find owing an Akita? Are they a handful? Can he be trusted offleash?
Been thinking of getting a dog finaly, and really want an akita, but I keep hearing things on how untrusting they can be.. Can be very cat like and do what they want.

They are very cat like... And hard to train.. They do not do ANYTHING if they dont see a point in it or dont trust you..

Keiko Can be out of leash and come back.. But he cannot play with other male's.. But that is not his faull since he has been attacked 3-4 times by now...
But he loves puppies and the Ladies.. And he LOVES children ! He cries and gets so happy When he sees Them.
He is very connected in the family and happy with us.. But you do not wish to be a stranger doing a wrong move, like bending over him.. Then he Will hate you for good..

He is an extremely great dog, I trust him 100% because i know what he does and does not like.. He is very happy, Got that derpy look constantly xD that waggy tail When he Wakes you up.
He loves our family and is Always in the room we are, protecting us

And yes, he sometimes do what ever he want, say like "naaah, i wont listen mom" xD

In an Akita you get a Guardian, might be sceptical on strangers, but extremely loyal to the once's they trust.. They Can be hard to train, so train it good. And be carefull with genetic desieses... Dont just take a random Akita... Make sure you Pick a good kennel and read about it..
Its not just a dog.. Its a friend for life if you treat Them that Way
And they Will surely Tell you if you are Doing anything Wrong xD

And do keep in mind there is a diffrens between the Inu and American.. They are NOT the same.

yeah, Akita's are a dog that you want to have as a life companion. Seems to be more than just a pet. I think if I had an Akita, things would go really well. But alas, I will 'eventually' have to leave home and work up north in camps to keep paying the bills. So if I had to leave him for 2 weeks at a time, he'd get very frustrated and confused. I'll need a dog that doesn't care as much about this. I used to live with a yellow lab for 3 years. (was my ex's dog) and he was just fine being left alone at the kenel for 2 weeks when we went on vacation together. And also trusted him 100% around other people and dogs in a offleash dog park... But I don't really want to have another lab.

Maybe I'll look to a husky or a collie.

Maybe in my retirement, I'll get an akita to see my days out.

Yeah leaving an Akita Can make Them sad or depressed.. And they Will miss you.

A collie is also a great dog :)
