looks funny because i had to piece 2 pictures together :D
that's the fuckin coolest kid in the world, Jake, texting before his altar.
anyways, what you see here is:
pc running ableton live 7, my tablet under the monitor, my sticker covered lamp (you can't see them, they're on the back of the light part) my korg 4-track, bigass speakers i shouldn't be using as monitors (pioneers) shitty RCA preamp for said speakers, my pc, my printer, 6 cd changer (hasn't been used in like 3 years) casio privia piano, shitty-ass drums we stole from a church(jake's are in billings still, we haven't made a trip to get them yet), come random shit, my guitar (flat black ec-1000 in the corner between the tables) justin's handmade bass (plays great even if it's painted like a picnic table tablecloth) my shure sm57 mic hanging from it's cord (which is duct taped to the ceiling because we can't afford mic stands) and lots more.
enjoy, kids. This is where babies are made.

That's what i'll be majoring in :D CALARTS, BABY! (i think)
I got pretty lucky, a lot of this we had either in storage or left from when my sister went to college.
hmm.. it breaks down like this:
pc+monitor - 980
ableton live software - 250
mic - 100
speakers - found in storage, probly about 150-200 at original purchase in '85
drums - like i said, stolen from a church (not really, we jsut borrowed them from a praise band our other guitarist is in)
my guitar (esp ltd ec-1000VB) - 850
bass (built from spare parts) - about 450
crappy pre-amp (came with 4 3'' surroundsound speakers and a 6''sub) - 125
casio privia (my sister's) - i think around 500-600 but i'm really not sure. (it's got weighted keys so i think it's decently high-end)
line6 toneport UX1 (how we input guitars/mics into the pc) - 150
so alltogether (instruments included) about 3400 or so, give or take a few hundred for cables/acessories and whatnot.
that's budget, homes. :D

Man, you're a HELL of a lot more serious about this stuff than I am. ;)
I've ALWAYS sung for fun. That's why I just take karaoke/instrumental versions of well known stuff to sing and record against.
I've done the "original music" CD thing already. Recorded in a legitimate (and FUCKING EXPENSIVE) studio and got it outta my system for the most part. ;) Only time I've been back there was to record some character parts for a travelling puppet show. However, it DID interest me enough to pick up a semi-decent (for some recording, anyway) USB condenser mic to try recording some of my own stuff.
I MIGHT convince myself to try a track similar in style to Bobby McFerrin. And, with the advice that you gave me (which, by the way, I really do appreciate :)), it might not sound half-bad! ;)
The arrangement is gonna be kinda odd. So, it might take me a while to figure out how to do it all. But, we'll see, I guess.
Great stuff here, Dude. :)
