Back in 1993, I went through a pretty horrible break-up with a girl I was head-over-heels for. In the wake of that I wrote almost an entire album's worth of songs inspired by the whole thing (one of which was "There Are Times...", which you may or may not have already heard here). Most of them were sad, some bordering on pathetic lol, in which I begged for my lost love to return to me. But somewhere along the way I felt a need to express my anger at over way things had ended. It was a logical step in the healing process.
So I wrote "Crawl".
The lyrics are self-explanatory with no hidden messages or meanings. Never mind that if my ex had come crawling back to me, I'd've almost certainly been stupid enough to take her back lol. By writing this, I got my anger out, and gained a song that I really like in the process.
Hopefully this one won't violate any of FA's copyright rules. It does contain a sample from a remix of Depeche Mode's excellent song "Stripped", but it's really only the rhythmic elements that are used, and all of the major melodic elements are original and written by me. This is one of the few songs I've done that came out sounding pretty much how I envisioned it.
(Just for the record, I know that the word "reoccurring" doesn't really exist and should be "recurring", but "reoccurring" fit better lol).
"Crawl" (5:17)
Written May 1993
This version recorded 1995 (using elements of the original 1993 recording)
Contains elements of "Stripped (Highland Mix)", written by M.L. Gore and performed by Depeche Mode
I thought that I would never see your face again
But here you are, like a reoccurring nightmare
You say you've changed and you want to make amends
If you want sympathy, you'll have to find it elsewhere
I don't forget the past so easily
And now I'll show you what you mean to me
You better crawl, get down on your knees
Beg forgiveness, pray for release
I wanna see you fall down at my feet
Well, I never knew revenge could taste so sweet
What you put me through was hell on earth
A cruel game that you loved to play
Now you come back to me, talking of rebirth
What right do you have to speak to me this way?
I'll tell you one thing, you've got a lot of nerve
I'll give you all of the respect that you deserve
You better crawl, get down on your knees
Beg forgiveness, pray for release
I wanna see you fall down at my feet
Well, I never knew revenge could taste so sweet
Taste so sweet
Let me teach you about the word 'regret'
It's not gonna save your soul
I will not forgive, because I cannot forget
Now I'm the one in control
And you better crawl, get down on your knees
Beg forgiveness, pray for release
I wanna see you fall down at my feet
Well, I never knew revenge could taste so sweet
You better crawl, get down on the floor
Beg for mercy like never before
I wanna see you fall down at my feet
Well, I never knew revenge could taste so sweet
It tastes so sweet
It tastes so sweet
It tastes so sweet
