For some reason, looking at this layout, my immediate first impression is that it was originally (or currently is) set up as a Furcadia Dream...

...huh? Please explain?

Furcadia is a visual environment, 3/4 top-down view, MUCK, essentially. Or, to define it a bit better, a MUCK with a visual overlay, the quality of which is a bit lower than that of the original Starcraft game. Despite this, or perhaps due to it, it is possible to make custom maps for it, specific areas, and upload them to the server so others can enter and hang out there. These areas are known as dreams.

Your work, the designs in particular in this image, distinctly remind me of one of these areas in its' architecture and style.

For a better description, perhaps you should refer to their website at www.furcadia.com There are a decent number of screenshots. You likely can also google up other images of such.
