You know most swords, even large two handers, were rarely over like six pounds. Most one-handed arming swords (what the D&D longsword technically is) were about 3 pounds. Fighting with broadswords in the Medieval Era was as much a martial art as anything coming out of the Orient with well defined maneuvers, counter maneuvers, styles and even wrestling moves. (Combat is dirty and fighting men used what worked, not what was fair.)

Hehe, yeah I collect swords / daggers (but not that fantasy stuff) and no one of them is too heavy, but this was more refering to abnormal big / thick stuff in MMORPG's like WoW hehe, not to mention the size difference between the different races xD
But you're right, normal RPG's with D&D rules use realistic weapon's (like BG).
