I am such a derp I tell you! *insert DerpyHooves image here*
It never occurred to me until long after having completed the model for
chucky and after further collaborative discussions with him that I realized my model was still a bit inaccurate. XD
The length of nose and tail were pretty close to what Chucky envisioned for the SP-2, however if you study this new post closely you would find the spacing between the nose section and where the leading edge of the wing-root begins was far TOO long, and that the panel spacing between the doors was too thick longitudinally.
To fix this, I simply isolated the cockpit doors and various other items such as the twin fins on the roof, the GPS antenna, and the air sensor tube on the tip of the nose, and grabbed the doors and the door framing and dragged them back towards the rear until they almost lined up with the wing-root. I then grabbed the entire nose section and pulled it too rearward until they rejoined the moved middle section of the fuselage.
The fuselage spacing, and spacing between doors and windshield are now so much more CANON that I'm ashamed to have not noticed that before. XD
The other adjustment to make my model of the SP-2 even closer to canon were the re-sweep of the wings from tip, all the way down to wing-root.
Seen on the top-left, the initial rendering of the SP-2 featured a swept-back wing form similar to a Rutan Long-EZ, but unknown to me, this was incorrect. Chucky's SP-2 has a more of a straight wing design as seen in the upper-right, with a generous wing root that gradually tapers a third of the way out into the span, giving the SP-2 from my own observation a wonderfully thick set of flaps and leading edge slats to generate obscene amounts of lift at very slow speeds.. Perfect qualities for a training aircraft with docile handling character!
The lower panel shows a comparison of fuselage lengths between the initial model and the update with the updated version in the foreground.
I must say the longer I work on this, and the more Chucky and I exchange thoughts, the more canon the Sp-2 appears and yet again, the more beautiful she appears as well! =D
