I've been trying to sketch a pose somewhat similar to this; but different, as gift art for my friend. The thing is, the summer dress I'm using as the outfit of choice, didn't turn out as nicely as yours'. Mainly cause I probably didn't draw the dress right.

Thank you so much!! It took me forever to actually finish it, but that's because I tried out a lot of new things on it. Makes me happy to know that people enjoy it.

I'm the same way, I have to use references when drawing. Only a few can I ever successfully draw something free handed and have it look decent enough to show everybody. Clothing however, has always been a challenge for me. I just gotta learn to be a bit more patient than I usually am with my work and study folds and movement more.
I understand you when it comes to forcing yourself out of your comfort zone. My human figure teacher from back when I was still in school, would lecture the class about trying to move out of our comfort zones and try new things. We did, and it was surprising how well we did regardless of the discomfort. I'm always trying to focus on the things in my artwork that I would otherwise try to hide and leave out. So far, things are going by pretty okay.
