A few things inspired this one. I really wanted to draw a superhero. So I drew this while watching DragonBall on dvd. Once the sketch was done the stance reminded me of General Grevious from StarWars (or however his name was spelt). But the entire thing was done as improve and I didn't use any real references.
I even gave VultureMan a backstory:
VultureMan was a man with some long, troubled past. He was an animal catcher and practical poacher. One day when he decided to turn his life around for the better, he was led into a large warehouse to deliver his crates after crates of dead animals and parts thereof. This was his last job and he planned to turn the buyer into the police. Little did he know that this was a police sting in action. Everything went awry and the buyer used his default reaction to get away, he blew the entire warehouse sky high.
VultureMan tried to escape, but was messed up pretty good. he lost one of his arms and both legs along with most of his body being maimed pretty bad.
While in the hospital, and being accused of not only poaching, but also killing police officers (who didn't survive the incident) someone unknown came to his aid and got him through trial. Instead of being sentenced to death, he was instead sent through a plea bargain to one of the worst prisons in the continent. Already screwed and perminantly wheel-chair bound, he didn't get on very well and was soon stabbed by an inmate and by then he decided his life was pretty much done for.
Little did he know that his beneficiary through the trials and hospital was a scientist who experimented on prisoners at this specific jail. Was it a set up? Was this planned from the beginning? Who knows.
But VultureMan ended up waking up on an operating table. Through a long series of surgeries, he was put back together. Surprised and thankful, he went along with it. Though he started to wonder what they were doing with the odd assembly of parts.
Midway through 'completion', he learned through off-duty workers what they were planning for him. By now he was given a wing of metallic configuration, blackish metal and the long bird-like mask. They were planning to cancel his time due to high-costs and insufficient material. Dispite the previous ruling of 'life in prison', he found he was already written off as dead in the prison system and, now a toy for the scientists, was going to be dismantled for other projects in the coming week.
He sat there and waited. Only when the time was right did he start his escape by prying himself free from his table, breaking a piece of equipment near him and using it to politely remove the doorway. Many died trying to stop him and he didn't get away without suffering on his own part.
When he broke free, the man found that he was nowhere near the prison at all, but in the middle of nowhere in Russia. He had nothing with him except for the spear-like object he used for his escape and the bloody operating blanket still wrapped around him.
After this he flees to the outer edges of Europe and Africa and goes about his time taking up a new role of beating up poachers, criminals, AND scientists. He titles himself Vultureman by the appearance he was given. His catchphrase is 'There's no use running. You will be 'caw't.'
