Heh, I had a player in one of my games that would actually update her mini based on her current gear. For example, when her sorceress picked up a wand and was carrying it around as her 'primary' weapon, she swapped out her mini to reflect this. I think she ended up with some thirty meticulously painted minis over the course of the campaign. It was pretty flippin' awesome.
