Just as a historical bit, shouldn't he have two chevrons on his shoulderboard, rather than a center line of braid?

I think in 1929 it was still a center braid. It was hard to find a definitive answer on this question, though, especially since I don't speak Polish. One site said they didn't switch over to chevrons until later, like 1938. http://odkrywca.pl/komu-wierzyc-sto.....ow,268920.html

OH, 1929? I thought this was based in like, 1938/39 :O Then yes, the insignia IS different:
