I'd definitely go with adding more to the cheeks. The head structure is one of the features that really defines what a pit bull looks like.
I find that when I commission folks to draw Tige, the "cheeks" can make or break the dog; if the cheeks, muzzle, and head are off, it ends up looking like a generic dog and not a pit bull.
