The last time I saw the Dudley Do-right emporium was in 1999, when Greg Giacobe and I visited. (Greg is the dude with the camera over his shoulder in the pic.) The first time I saw the place was some years earlier, when Marc Schirmeister and I visited it at it's 8200 Sunset Blvd. location in West Hollywood. The actual Jay Ward studio is at the other end of the short block (to the right). Schirm and I were hoping to find Jay Ward himself at the studio, but he apparently wasn't in, so we settled for the store. The surprising thing is that after leaving the store I saw someone on the street walking toward the studio who looked exactly like Ward. And it was! Schirm and I had a rare half hour conversation with the animator before he shook us off and retreated into his studio.

Heh. I think I still have a couple of pencils and such from my one visit ca. 1982 or so...Didn't meet Jay, but I did meet his wife and got to see the vintage orchestrion that lurked inside the studio...
