I didn't manage to go to either one of those >)
I DID visit the Steak House, and though the service lacked a bit the first time (we had a great second time though!) and that was great!
And well, we loved that Asian place! We do miss it already ;; (and the cheap prices for food, compared to spendy Belgium!)

The Asian restaurant around the Hotel corner was awful and expensive, but there was a pretty good one down the street, about 5m walk, super cheap and the sushi was awesome!

Oh my goodness there is the best sushi place nearby. It's all the way in central Arkansas but it is still amazing. The chef who owns the restaurant and does modt of the preparation was on Iron Chef (not sure of its significance but people talk about it) Anf their sushi is definitely level 100.
I think the problem was ordering a California maki roll. It really is the Level 1 of sushi. :P For serious, that stuff is everywhere.
All the best ones have awesome names like Volcano Roll or Black Dragon roll. Tend to be a little more pricey, but they also tend to be packed with a lot more and come drizzled in sauce.

That's pretty much what California rolls look like everywhere in the US too, so don't expect to be thrilled if you visit. Rarely you'll get an overstuffed one that's wider than a coin but don't count on it.
T
Novelty rolls smothered in mayo and fried gunk get a little rying after a while too. Half the time I just order the chirashi now because you're guaranteed some nice fish without having to guesswwhat's good that day and no 'oops, you just dropped $15 on rice wrapped around a single stick of cucumber."
I gotta stop posting from phone it won't let me edit these dropped/misplaced characters!( Arghoops.

yeah, sushi is overpriced in general, so there's only really one, maybe 2 sushi places in my city I'd go to for a la carte (pay by roll), otherwise the all you can eat sushi is the only option. might not be the best quality but you can have however much you want, so you get your money's worth :)
I bet where you come from you can get wonderful fresh sushi for a good price, but then, I don't really know a lot about Malaysia. So, correct me if I'm wrong.
If I were in Europe though I don't really think I'd have high expectations for sushi. I'd probably want to try some delicious sausage though.

but a california roll isn't real sushi. its avacado, and other plant matter, surrounded by rice, wrapped around with a bit of nori.
no big surprise resteraunts these days, will try to get away with the cheapest, read biggest profit margin, way of meeting the discription, even if only just and they have to streatch it a little. the only way real sushi wouldn't be expensive is if you buy the all you can eat deal. which is still more then i want to pay to eat more then about once a month.
portion control is the price of greed is good. pride in generosity ended with raygun/thatcher. (unless you look for it in UNEXPECTED places)

If you ever go to the Portland, OR, area.... Go to Sushi Land, one of the ones in the state~ They're only like $1-3 for a couple pieces of sushi :3 It's nommy stuff made right there, not like ZOMG AMAZING but for the sushi types I've had, closer to lvl 50 than not, if not even closer to lvl 75? I'm not sure @-@
That Sushi your character is expecting looks so yummy with it's sprinkling of Lobster Roe. I don't know the name of it, but yes, it looks like you got a insubstantial serving of California Roll instead. In either case I'd feel satisfied if they served the dish with proper Wasabi. (Forget the pickled Ginger.) I really enjoy Sushi when that "Wasabi Reaction makes it feel like the hairs in my nostrils are getting singed.
... I saw this and thought of you. German Sushi.
