Perhaps my final entries of heroes for  jreed's game.
Cayce the wolf mage and a suit of armor he animated that developed a mind of its own.

Cayce is a wolf that was born in a small village, and showed magical promise at a young age, and was taught by the village witch. After a few years his abilities had advanced beyond the witch's ability to teach him, and luckily he was found by a traveling mage from a local spellcaster's academy. Because of how advanced his skills were, he was taken in by a master as a high-level apprentice. Shortly after learning to enchant innanimate objects and animate them, he developed a balanced elemental enchantment, which he used on a suit of armor he found sitting in an unused room of the academy. Because of the nature of the spell, it was self sustaining, and ever since the armor has been his faithful protector. He is now a journeyman, alternately travelling and adventuring to acquire magical experiance as an elementalist and enchanter, and doing research and study at the academy.

The suit of armor Cayce animated began to develop a personality and eventually became independant a short time after being given life. The suit of armor eventually decided it wanted to be called Francis. Initially it used a halberd as a weapon, but one day when travelling with Cayce came across the two handed sword that it now uses, and got Cayce to purchase it. Now, despite having a mind and personality of its own, it remains faithful to Cayce and follows him whenever he goes anywhere there might be danger. When Cayce is safely at the academy, Francis often goes out and does odd jobs around town to raise additional money to help Cayce pay for materials for spells. Francis has developed a liking for card games, chess, and oddly enough, pickled-cabbage-and-sauerkraut sandwiches, which he will occasionally purchase for himself when he gets money. When he has money, he keeps it in a sock that he keeps in his left foot. In combat, while a bit slow, he is quite powerful and skilled with his weapons. He can also use elemental attacks.
