The render is kind of grainy. Do you know how to increase the sampling?
There's a good set of tutorials on youtube. Look up tutor4u, he gives good in-depth tutorials.

Blender is a really good free program. you can even do liquid simulation with it.

so i notice :) just wish there were tutorials on blendercookie that didn't require you to pay =w=

There are basic tutorials on the main site for blender, and you should be able to find plenty of tutorials on Youtube. Also check http://www.blenderguru.com/ looks to be some nice ones there for free.

none about character modeling

Characer modeling is soft surface, But I will take a look around for some blender stuff on Character modeling tutorials. But I can say that you will need lots of reference for character modeling, more than any other form of modeling, I know because thats what I graduated from collage doing, Character modeling (though my experience is with different programs like "Autodesk Maya")
