We all knew this had to happen sooner or later. Since I had some time today, I decided to make it 'sooner'.
When startled or injured, an opossum will 'play dead', doing it's best to mimic a dead animal. What I didn't know until recently is that this reaction is entirely involuntary, kind of like fainting taken to a whole new level.
So, just... be careful about the sudden noises around Ru for a while, alright? At least until he gets this under control.
A shitty doodle comic because I don't have the patience to actually make good ones. Sorry. D:

(oops, that was me!)
Fainting-goat sex aside, the "waking up four hours later not remembering" thing actually has literally happened to my bf a few times. He eventually pieces it together from forensic evidence, not the least of which being waking up from a four-hour nap at 3 in the afternoon. It's kind of flattering, but I'd just as soon remember the sex firsthand I think. o_O

And now I'm imagining Ru at a New Year's Eve party when one of those party crackers goes off.
CRACK!
"Hngh!" *plop*
"Uh, what was that? Is he gonna be alright?"
"Yeah, he's fine. Just prop him up on the couch and give him a few minutes."
Of course such a scenario is a bit far-fetched. What would Ru be doing at a loud, crowded party anyway?

Playing dead is involuntary? *blinks* Huh. I thought it was through conscious effort...OH! It's like the fainting goats thing right? The legs locking up from the sudden heart rate rush? Theirs like stops or something right?
*quickly places locks against cupboards and turns down surround sound* That should do it....I think

Have you ever seen a possum "Playing dead"? I have. There are plenty of them where I live, and I've been able to observe them up close a good bit.
It isn't just a matter of them falling over and lying there with exes for eyes like a cartoon. They actually writhe around a bit, their tongue lolls out, and they emit a nasty odor. Your first impression would be that they're sick, not dead.
Think of it: It's a preservation technique. If they just seemed dead, a predator would just go "Cool!", and carry them off or eat them. If they seem gross and sick, the predator is repulsed, and every instinct tells them that this horrible thing is something to get away from, and DEFINITELY not to eat.
