That's semi alarming seeing as its still light out. You normaly don't see raccoons out during the day, and especialy not near people. It's a good sign that they have rabies.

Though I supose if they're around humans alot they can become used to humans. Like in some places squirels and birds will come right up to you because they're just around humans so much.

The raccoons around my house can be a bit 'spontaneous' when it comes to food. This one time a few years ago, one came up on my deck and overturned a fry-cooker I had left unattended for too long so that it could lap up some of the grease. I think I might still have pictures somewhere...

I guess they're just not shy around there. ^^;;

Actually, some raccoons will come out in the day if a food source is nearby.

It's common for a mother raccoon who has had babies to be seen in the daytime.

Really? I'd still stay away from them though. ^^;;

There was one time we saw them during the day. There were a pair of them. They looked like big kitties.

And then I saw one at night once on my deck digging through garbage.

Raccoons will usually come out on cloudy days or in the summer because the days are longer and they get hungry and don't want to wait until night.

In regards to rabies, the warning signs to look out for are abnormal behavior:
Paralysis
Limping around in circles
Unusually tame
Unusually agressive
Making loud screeching noises

i have two as pets sena a manzanita coon (red and black) and rocky a sierra? coon grey,white and black ive allways seen them mostly awake during the day but not very active they kinda lounge aroud like bumps on a log and dont do much but at night the just wont sit still no mater what all activity i have to close my bedroom door some times to sleep or they'll playfuly pounce me while I lay there trying to sleep i go to bed late any how so its no big deal im poor with no camera but ill have pictures eventualy for you
