Yeah, yeah, I keep doodling weird bicycles. This one could actually work, if you got a VERY competent engineer to get the gearing just right.

well, there aktually is one artist that did create a rather good mechanic walking cycle,
Theo Jansen
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theo_Jansen
type his name in YouTube,
you will find a lot
you can not sit on the beasts thats right, but the mechanism is the the vital thing,
as far as you can get the geometry of the mechanism at Janses page it is often used,
for example for tiny walking robts:

(it is hard do see, but they got four sets of three "Jansen Legs"
or for example it is used as a bike:

I was looking for walking robots, using known actuator designs, and found a patent for a 6 legged walking backhoe from 1997. Noone was intrested, so it was pulled in 1999.
Take 6 backhoe arms and attatch to a frame, put the cabin, engine and controls on top. Get a headache workin on the walking functions.
Id love to see it used for asteroid mining. Fire at the target, let the legs impact, then wait for it to extract itself and start throwing ore into orbit.
Soiderbike, spiderbike, does whatever a spiderbike does. 8)
