The purpose of this submission is to show that he is unnaturally fuzed with abstract things, such as his tongue, being literally made out of barbed wire.
He consumes the brains of his victims for sustenance and as a result becomes a bit more intelligent after each feeding, which led to his raised state of self awareness.
