so while FA was 'down', i had a few spare minutes and decided to compile some photos of every hoodie i've ever made. why?
to showcase how awesome these character designs are

These are all wonderful! I was going to ask what material you used but I thought I would check your FAQ first instead of being a pest, then I read "i mail all hoodies from Canada, via regular surface post, unless otherwise specified (pro-tip, NEVER cross the border to mail things in another country. ever. seriously. they don't like it, and the amount of trouble is just not worth it)." Thanks for that, I seriously started looking into the legality of that yesterday, because I live really close to the border and Canada Post sucks. So I think you've saved me some time!
Anyways, I love these, it's cool to see how much you've progressed since the first one! I keep meaning to try making something like this but I am afraid I will royally arse it up xD The puma one and Inkbird's are my favourite.
Keep being awesome!

i usually order from Joanns.com.
it sucks, since i'm close enough to the border that i can actually just hop over and buy it... but for legal reasons (not being allowed to cross the border for work-related things), i'm stuck ordering fabric online, instead.
seriously, purchasing work-related materials and bringing them back over the border is a HUGE no-no, and you can get into a world of trouble. like crossing over to mail stuff from the states, it's just not worth the fines and penalties. >_>

Seriously? I had no idea! So if I say ordered fabric to one of those "ship to the border" places because I'm in Vancouver and have been thinking of doing that to save on shipping... I'd get in trouble? When I worked in the film industry every show I worked on had a post office box down there that they shipped everything to so they could save a bit of money. That's crazy, I'll have to look into all of these rules better :\
Wow, joanns has pretty much every colour ever, eh? Thanks for the info! I just bought a bit of fleece at my local shop today. I'm going to try to make one of these things, we'll see how it goes lol.

oh wow, i had no idea you were a local!
(I'm over in Surrey/Langley myself)
I think it has to do with paying brokerage fees etc. So for certain things, it probably still pays to ship to the USA, but i think they probably have different border crossing regulations since it may count as larger business imports, if that makes sense.

it pays to have a membership at fabricland, if you plan on doing much shopping there.
they do not have a wide selection of fleece, though. and i'm super picky about what i use: i want all the fleece i use to be uniform (so no mixing blizzard and anti-pill, etc).
Joann's is pretty awesome. buuuut... shipping is a pain.

Oh, haha! I figured you were in ontario for some reason xD
Yeah, that makes sense, I'll have to really look into it before I do any business related border crossing. Also, I just read your journal and I have the exact same industrial pfaff as you, I've had mine for nearly 4 years, it's a great machine!

lol, well, Toronto does seem to have a lot of furs, XD
aaah! you have one too?
i hate to be a bother, but you wouldn't happen to know why there's oil coming out the bottom, would you? i mean, aside from a possible leak or something? is that normal?
also do you know what year it is?
and is there a particular way to thread it so that the top stitching loops with the bottom? (i'm not sure if i've done something horribly wrong, or if the timing is out)
it was given to me by someone who'd had it in storage for ages, and didn't know where it had come from in the first place. so... not an avid sewer by any means. i have no idea how long it was sitting there, or if it was sitting there because somewhere, something is broken.
>_>
aaaand pfaff doesn't have an online manual for this model (i guess it's that old?), so i haven't been able to figure it out.

I have a manual, but I had to pay $10 for it online and it basically just talks to you like a moron, you go to troubleshoot something in it and in super technical terms it basically says, "Why would that be going wrong? If you knew what you were doing you wouldn't have messed that up in the first place." And everything it does tell you how to fix involves turning like 5 different screws 17.4 degrees clockwise and things like that. It's insane xD
I'm a bit of a sewing machine tinkerer though. We had 20 or so industrials at university and I was usually the one to fix them, so I am not too bad with troubleshooting. Where is the oil coming from exactly? If it had ever been stored sideways then oil could have leaked out of the reservoir and is now draining out of weird places. Also be really sure to keep enough oil in it! It isn't like a domestic, it needs to have a bunch of oil in it at all times, though if you put too much in it will sometimes drip out and stain fabric if you're working with silks, etc. There's a little viewing port right above the backstitch lever, check to see if the oil is above the minimum line.
If you've never threaded an industrial before, it's a bit different than a domestic. There is a chance that it's not looping because the timing is off, or it could just be because it's a pain to thread. The manual does have threading diagrams though, let me know your email and I'll send it along to you.
If you're really stuck on it I could totally come by sometime and tinker with it, if you'd like. Otherwise, I know a great repair guy, though I am not sure how far out he does house calls, depending how far toward langley you are as opposed to Surrey. Base repair is about $80 from most places, and if it's anything more than a very simple issue prices go up from there, sometimes quickly. Also these old european machines don't always have a ton of cheaply available parts around. But I doubt anything is actually broken on it.

oh my gosh that would be fantastic, thank you! ;___;

I haven't ever really tinkered with a machine before, but most of my machines don't seem very tinker-friendly. this one looks like it should be, though. i'm willing to give it a try, before i take it in somewhere.
the Surrey/langley place you're talking about wouldn't happen to be Castle Sewing, would it? lol.
