Decent pictures are a problem.
I do like the funcionality of them. I mean, pockets are a boon not a burden.
I don't know where the Hornblower regard of Star Trek came from, I always fancied it as more Aubrey and Mauturin.
The dashing and ballsy Capatain, with the argumenatitive Doctor-Friend who wasn't overly fond of the miltary.
Except of course, Spock took more the 'Everloyal, ever-lasting friend' role more-so than McCoy.

you are right. TOS was IMHO the best, nothing against the rest of the series but TOS was the original. The Enterprise was out there for 5 years, exploring new worlds, encountering new species and getting into battles while being the only Federation ship in the sector. They were quite literally alone. TNG was more 'police the Federation' than anything else.
