So lately I've been having a bit of trouble with Chu Chu, because his/her design is very chubby and so posing has become difficult and has felt a little cluttered with their body type and fins. It's been hard creating negative space.

So I've been messing a bit with the kyucean species design.

I kinda felt that kyuceans looked a tiny bit more canine then I'd like them to. So I've messed with the nose a bit, making it a bit more like a horse muzzle but keeping the triangle-like shape.

I gave it a thicker neck, like a horse, and a more stockier chest like a horse as well.

On my kyucean it's a bit confusion because hair/fur is only located on the head and there's no indication of where that starts or stops. You see, the hair on the head is it's ONLY form of hair, and it works as a mane like a horse to.

Kyuceans are not only based on the small marine animal the seahorse but it is also based on the MYTHOLOGICAL Seahorse the hippocampi. It also has some inspiration from Ichthyocentaurs (a human torso with the lower body that has lion (or horse)front paws and a fish-like tail for the rest of the body) So I felt adding more horse-like features would make it look less like an aquatic canine and more like a sea monster (a cute chubby sea monster). So it's got a bit of canine, feline-like webbed front paws with thumbs, and horse like features along with seahorse aquaticness.


What do you guys think? Less cuter then the original? better? worse? I'd like second opinions on it :3 what you liked in the old one and like in this version and etc.! I'm still testing things so it'd be great to know!

ps: oh yeah to avoid confusion the 2nd one from the top isn't part of what I'm saying that one's more closer to the original kyucean.
