Last of the artwork for now. Most of the story takes place on the great plains, near the Oklahoma/Texas border. In the griffin's world most of the North American megafauna and landscape is still intact, and the towns and cities are much smaller than ours, and usually along the coast or major bodies of water. Their assignment takes ranger Harrell, Kwap and Tirrsill to an isolated prairie town, which exists mainly as a way station for transporting agricultural goods and meat animals to various points on the continent. Despite patches of cultivation, nearly all the original tallgrass prairie is still intact.

They're supposed to be closer to raccoons, although convergent evolution makes them look a bit lemur-like. They're also on the small side-- two or three feet tall at most. They're considerably less aggressive than humans, and if they hadn't formed an alliance with the griffins centuries ago they probably would've been wiped out by the continent's larger and meaner carnivores.
