Well.. that's not bad, but have you considered using raw sugar? The molasses in it perfectly compliments the caramelization from the frying process - and speaking of, what kind of oil are you using? There's a whole revolution in fats going on right now, you have so many options! Lard, schmaltz, duck fat is really in this season.. Have you considered a gluten-free flour alternative for your dough?

Don't use oil. I only use the finest of premium malt liquor beverages for fryin' my eats in. Gives 'em that special somethin.
