I was initally very vary of going with this concept - afterall, A Redtail’s Dream is a comic that revolves very much around mythology and nature. Surely a sci-fi mech-dragon would be out-of place? But then I took a look at Simon Stålenhag’s gallery and realized that maybe my worries were unfounded.

May just be me, but worth a look -- your links appear to be wrong in your description. They're just bringing me back here.
This is great, though! Love the almost-oil-like approach to the trees and the edge of the grass near the platform. The characters are great too, but I'm really digging the background. Heh.

For the background? Definitely oil-like. I stand by that. At least from my experience with it, and seeing how others use it. Spotty/transparent in a way, but still very detailed and planned when it needs to be. (That sounds like I'm almost insulting it, but I can't figure out better words to use. Please don't take it that way!)
