Auugh... I hated my driving instructor. She insisted that we engage the parking brake on every incline to keep the car from rolling backwards. Except... we were driving an automatic, and the parking brake was the foot-operated type, so it was 500 times more dangerous to use the parking brake.
My family was also told that driving school would lower our car insurance, which is why I went. Of course, it didn't!
These days I'm 30, I speed everywhere in my WRX, and have no speeding tickets or anything on my record. Take that, driving school!
