Tossed together something for a character design portfolio. I need some more cute, television friendly designs.
Feel free to crit, especially if you have industry level character design experience.

I feel like the colors are a little drab for something so cartoony, but maybe I'm oversensitive to that? I find I personally default to very neutral colors, and have to work hard to brighten them up. Brighter art always seems to get more attention, even though it can end up being a bit gaudy.
I think it stands out because both the green and the pinks are a bit dull.
I'm not an industry specialist, though. :x
I really like the design btw! So cute and lively.
My favorite part is the shape of the wings. Still toony, but they feel more organic than most heavily-stylized wings I've seen. I'm a bit envious!
Mine always turn out too stiff. v__v

It goes a bit deeper than that. Most younger kids shows also work with a very limited budget, so just being readable as a dragon isn't enough. It also has to be cheap to animate. It must not have too many colors. It has to work as a toy. It has to be simple enough that overseas can reproduce it a bajillion times. It MUST have a recognizable silhouette that makes it as marketable as Mickey Mouse.
There's a lot more time and effort and consideration put into the design of stuff for younger kids than for adults or teens.

I agree with you but as well as ligax since we both a studying at the same school for animation. But it does also depend where you trying to get into work. But, unfortunately, you wont get in with just doing character designs and concept sheets alone. I thought the same at one point but had it explained to me, that anyone in the industry can do a character sheet and concept art. What they are gonna ask is what else can you do other than that, cause like I said, any artist in the industry can do that. We don't just pitch characters and thats it, we would then do what we hired to do, whether, thats animating, modeling, rigging, etc.
Aye, I've worked professionally for several years, in studios and outside of them. That's true in most smaller studios. You're asked to juggle a lot of jobs, mostly technical in addition to creative. But in larger studios, they prefer to see focus. This is specifically for a character design focused portfolio for a character design show for a children's cartoon show. I can't come to them with my usual character designs because my tastes run counter to mainstream appeal. And they're rendered for comics. The focus on this character design portfolio is demonstrating an understanding of story through character and marketable appeal. Competence alone does not impress. They want imagination and flexibility as well.
I'd argue that concept sheets and character design is not something anyone can do, not with skill. There's a world of difference between what Nico Marlet puts out and your average furry on FA, for example. You must know the needs of the client and you have to juggle a lot of skills at once.

It's really cute - don't get me wrong, but the head shape seems too rectangular, and the mouth seems kind of awkward to me. The mouth comes off as incredibly stiff and i would just go with a much more simple shape personally. Also, I think it should just be a tad brighter. The ears also come off as kind of stiff, although I'm not sure it if would end up being less so in animation.
What I'm really digging is that nose. It's so dang cute! I also love her paws, both feet and hands.
