These frequent the feral world, and are extremely aggressive, and extremely rare... which is fortunate because the legends surrounding their eyes happen to be true.
(for those who don't know, you die if you look at it straight in the eyes.)
If you were to look at it from most angles, the white scales on top of it's head resembles a small diadem of sorts, which is fitting for the reputed "King of Serpents", while the red plumage (also featured in some Harry-Potter illustrations) are a reference to it's close relative, the cockatrice. The "mohawk" of red feathers is supposed to echo a chicken's or rooster's comb.
I've taken some liberties with this creature. It has seven layers of "eyelids" which are crystal-clear and thin. Each layer dilutes the deadly power in it's eyes by a bit. If all seven layers are closed over, then it's eyes won't do anything. They appear in both morphic and animal form, but are far more common in their snake form (They're able to shift their shape to a certain extent, so it's often assumed that they are ALL naturally snake-like, but shift their shape when it suits them). They talk in their own language, which comprises mainly of raspy, hiss-like syllables... but there is evidence that suggests they speak in normal tongue, should they feel the need to interact.
In the feral world, they are commonly referred to as Naga (females as Nagi), despite having little to do with the Nagas of this world.
They're cute. <3
