Tantar Glyphs and Special Pronunciation (Common Tantar)
This is a set of comparison of the latin alphabet to the common tantar alphabet. You will notice tantar has quite a few extra letters and there are a few not listed sounds that will be explained below.
First off, in tantar there are Seven Vowels instead of five/six in english, these vowels are:
a,e,i,o,u,~,ng
each of these has a normal form pronounced respectively;
a ; ah, like in car
e ; eh like in meh
i ; ih like in it aw
o ; aw like in hot
u ; uh like in bug
~ ; oo like in you
ng ; ng like in hung
Each vowel also has an Upper sound indicated by a horizontal apostrophe before the letter when written in tantar glyphs, and an " above the letter when written in English, EX:[ Lazar"i ]
"a ; aye like in day
"e ; ee like in free
"i ; eye like in pie
"o ; oh like in row
"u ; yew like in you (not used)
"~ ; uu like in should
"ng ; unpronounceable and rarely used
Another important pronunciation symbol is the glottal stop, represented in latin by a single apostrophe ['] and in tantar by a solid dot mid height [•].
This makes you do a quick stop between letters, liek in the word na'a which is sort of pronounced like nuh-uh but quicker and with an ah sound.
Also, the letter a has two normal sounds, ah (like car) and a (like cat) the A (like in cat) is rarely used but has it's own special symbol which is the A with another line down the right side parallel to the already present right line and intersecting the left line near the top just a bit.
Y also has two glyphs, one listed (informal) and one not listed (respectable) however we won't get into the respectable Y just yet.
It should also be noted letters like S, R, Y and U are reversible depending on the letters nearby and it's place in the sentience. This will also be explained at a later date.
Ck is pronounced hard and almost as a hacking flem based sound like you're clearing your throat.
Jz is pronounced like sh but using your vocal chords, so like a Zh or a j mixed with sh.
Phf is pronounced Pf and is often just writen as ph in latinized words, like Dephlar is pronounced depflar.
Gz replaces the X sound as tantars are incapable of making the Ks sound.
C is only used in special words, K is much more commonly used as the k sound
oh and Htlk is an unpronounceable constant usually only used in vulgarities so we won't be using it often.
PRONUNCIATION EXAMPLES:
Tantar:
Tahn Tahr
Lazar"i
Lah zahr eye
Na'a-Car"ot-tar
Nah-ah car oat tahr
QUIZ THING!!!
How would you pronounce
Fun Fact:
your probably noticing only one of there symbols is present in the icon for this FA page, that's because it's actually not even that!
The symbol for this FA page is written in a Tantar rune system called Vandriel that will not be mentioned till much much later. It says Language People of the flame. Or Language of the tantar
