What I do to blend fur is put in the base color, then on another layer draw in the other color of fur with a 1 px brush (literally drawing each individual hair with the smallest brush possible), then run over everything on that layer with the smudger in the direction the fur is growing in.

I have been meaning to try out your fur method, because it obviously achieves a cool result. This drawing was a bit rushed towards the end when it came to the detail given to my 'sona. I certainly will try out your fur method, preferably with a smaller project: I spent an large amount of time on Tom here, half because I'm unfamiliar with birds and because I was really paranoid with getting his facial expression wrong. So I was a bit less concerned with Tab's detal
