Awhile back before last Anthrocon I contemplated making Magic the Gathering-inspired card playmats, and I did this contemplation out loud on my twitter. Time was short though and I wound up doing the postcards/dogtags instead, never getting to the playmats.

 chakatthriceborn was keen on the idea, especially since I was considering a Mirri/cat warrior inspired pinup for one of them - so after the fact, he decided to make sure I did it! X3 Thrice commissioned the first 4 hours of this, and I did the rest of the poking on my own. This is an example of me working until I am satisfied without concern for time - not sure how long I ultimately spent refining this, but I think at least 10 hours, probably more.

Anyway, this is a Leonin warrior stalking through the jungles of Naya. I took inspirations from both the more tribal cat MtG art and the more "sophisticated"/armored leonin of the Mirrodin set.

I'm probably only going to make 5 of these playmats to start - 4 available for others to purchase, since 1 is going to Thrice obviously. ^_^ It will be a couple weeks before I receive them (having them printed overseas) but when I get 'em I'll be listing them up on my Storenvy!
