Now this is my kind of "art" lol. Didn't expect to see anything like this here. You're quite brave I'd have to say. The only guts of a transmission I've ventured into was for the Honda B-Series; quite small, simple and easy. Did mess around with two or three Getrag 265 box's but I was assisting someone else.

As in FA. Nice; which trans specifically? Or rather which motor are you mating it with? I've seen all kinds of cut up/project stuff lol.

Some parts are hard to source even with the right info, I remember I had a large bitch of a time trying to find a few "common" things, once had to get a SINGLE spline [re]machined, fucking input shaft wonkiness...ugh... Learning experiences, haha. I wish you luck, I definitely know how that feels when it comes to sourcing parts.

Huge +1 from me either way for having the balls to open your own transmission. I'll open a motor any day, transmission....eh what's that one rebuild shop's number again?

For internal parts like that, dealership is the only place to get them. Usually prices aren't too bad for little pieces like that. Unless they want you to buy a whole transmission, then pick & pull is your friend.

Not always when I was working in a car dealership we had a customer come in looking for three small pieces for his vans transmission the rest of the gearbox was fine all three pars were no longer available.
Everything else gears, bearings and shafts was still available just not these tiny little things.

i HATE working with transmissions ... too much can go wrong and its too much of a pain in the ass to replace a stripped gear

but once you rebuilt your own transmission you be allot more careful shifting XD

It does tend to be that, the more a person knows about something, the better they are at using it. Or at least that's what it's always seemed like to me.

yeah but it depends who you are how it effects you

for me it was both that it was a major pain in the ass and learning exactly how one worked (keep in mind i was plopped in a stick when i was 14 and was never taught how to do it properly i learned on my own ... granted now i have a paddle shifter)

and i'm very technical minded so seeing how it worked helped a ton

you are braver than most for even taking apart a tranny :)

its not broken, just gooved so that the detend ball won't keep it in gear..

Fords, yes.
Engine swap, if by taking out a 2litre and dropping in a 5.0litre no.
But I have put in the same type of engine, replaces and also change overs in a few cars.

Ah, SHO. My brother has a Contour SVT with that in there. Did a head swap, put a bigger throttle body on it and sent it off for a tune. Not my cup of tea for modding stuff, I prefer to keep what is in there running!

I read somewhere than a car transmission is one of the most complex things with moving parts man has invented.

This is the kind of know-how everyone should learn if their car starts lurching. Hint hint, giving it more gas will only fuck it up more X3
