Was it in Dungeon there was an issue with a huge section on a Githyanki invasion of the Prime Material, complete with flying astral barges full of shock troops? *goes to hunt through back issues*

They certainly have plenty of motivation for becoming adventurers - it's either go renegade or become Purina lich chow at 16th level.

The issues you're talking about were back when they still had Polyhedron published alongside Dungeon, so Dragon gave you some basic ideas for how to do a wartime scenario, the corresponding Dungeon was a really high level adventure to destroy the lich-queen for once and for all, and the Polyhedron minigame basically let you play githyanki out to conquer this Prime Material backwater for the greater glory of Vlaakith.

I've been thinking about using that stuff as source material actually, hence the Gith.
