So, I decided tonight to try using Open Canvas straight up without having a multiple-partner session.
First lesson of the night: "Layers" in Open Canvas do NOT work like Photoshop layers.
So, instead of working with the layers like I intended I just kept going.
I started with a brown, did a light outline on the 2nd layer and worked up from the background brown. My Wacom pen kept jumping from one screen to the next each time I went too far to the left. THAT was annoying.
Anyways, about 30 minutes in Open Canvas. I'm pretty happy with it as I'm still getting used to the medium. I'm not very good with colors, but I've often been good with shadows and highlights, so I'm hoping I can overcome my color ineptitude with highlights and shadows. *L*
This is Torakhan (my Temple of Divinity persona) in Greece, looking out over the Mediteranian.. supposedly.

This was just supposed to be a VERY rough sketch to show to
taleron for a commission I'm having done. But I got carried away. :(
Actually.. *clears throat* The outlines were all originally a light yellow on a light brownish background. When I worked under the yellow outlines, the other colors beneith came through. Most of the outlines for the other things.. the walls, curtains, etc., were all kinda improv. ^.^ But maybe that's what you meant too.
Thank you for liking the image, Ebby. ^.^ It's greatly appreciated. *nosebump*

The funny part was that originally it was going to be gray/brown colors with an electrified-blue light highlighting him.. but fudge it if I couldn't get Open Canvas to act the way I wanted, so I decided to ditch it and went with the lighter colors since those seemed to work better. ^.^
I'm glad you like it and that the "lazy morning" idea came through well.

Thank you. It's still a bit more messy than I'd like (I never really liked chalk pastels, but as I was working it up the same thought came across my mind) and hopefully in time I'll learn to be much cleaner. But I'm sure I'll be plenty "chalky" for a while to come yet. :D
