"OK, the first thing I need you to do is close your eyes, Carrow." Twilight Sparkle's voice echoed in the blue unicorn's mind as he did just that, a look of intense concentration on his face as his horn glowed and he activated his magic. "Now, what was it you wanted again? Picture it in your mind." Carrow's response came to her through gritted teeth. "A spiral... a black and white spiral..." His eyes were still closed, but Twilight could see said object materialise; it spun slowly as it gradually whirred into life. She hadn't expected it to contain so many twinkling stars, though. She'd seen that before - in some ways, it was his signature. She'd known that since they'd met in Canterlot, of course. "That's very good. You're doing very well today!" she praised him softly. Now, concentrate, Carrow... let's see how long you can hold that for.

This is what Twilight gets up to in the Ponyville library sometimes. Since she and Carrow grew up together, the alicorn was happy to take time off from her new duties and give him a helping hoof tapping into his particular strain of magic.
