An old piece of tattered paper inside of what seems to be a torn manual for a company named "S.P.I.N.E." says the following:

"The Backbone is and extremely lethal defensive machine capable of single handedly taking down an entire platoon of enemy soldiers with ease…which is exactly why we have hundreds of them.
The Backbone has detachable arms for weapon load-out changes, as well as several utility attachment points allowing for mass customization.
The Backbone guardians patrol the streets of our utopias in order to keep peace and safety at all times to the people.
With the correct load-outs the Backbone can be an extremely effective means of riot control as well.
They are completely automated but can be controlled by humans via control room (With proper level and codes of course).
In the case that a connection would be lost while a human is controlling the Backbone, the automated system will engage and the Backbone will think on its own terms again.
All Backbone guardians have an emergency kill-switch that will immediately deactivate the machine through power core disconnection (Within proximity of Utopia walls) or through nuclear self destruct causing mass enemy casualties (Within enemy territory.).
With beacons set throughout our utopias, a Backbone will never Nuclear self-destruct within, or near the walls.
Though the Backbones may be a defensive machine, it can be easily re-outfitted to be an effective offensive troop aswell.
Boasting whatever new technology we can get our hands on.

The new MK.II models introduce more agility, denser armor and better AI.
They keep the osmium allow tracks and now have improved suspension.
They still have load-out capabilities but better attachment points and arm articulation.
The new models allow for the upper torso of the machine to rotate independently from the chassis, allowing the Backbone to 'Strafe' and fire.
Though the new model may be slightly less robust, they are all around better in other fields."
