This was a simple class assignment, just a little something I looked forward to in school. But over time it became much more then that. At my school we have whats called a Poetry Slam. A competition in other words. Sadly I didn't make it passed the preliminaries. What I heard was that this poem was meaningless to me. That I should have spoken from the heart. They assumed I was straight. I have no regrets about entering. Those who knew me, knew that this poem was my way of coming out to my school.

Opening lines are quite strong. It meanders between metaphors in the middle there, and could stand some tidying up (swallow).
Good poem. I wouldn't even think twice about the contest thing; most good poetry fails a "vote among teenagers" test.
FWIW, a courageous thing to publish; don't lose that courage. Get used to people and especially religions being retarded and exercising unfair bad judgement. It's SO much more important to be who you are, cherish what you cherish, etc, esp. since you're not much good to anybody else if you don't got that.
